Did you know that just like the Sundays in Lent, the Sundays during the season of Easter also have names! Today, the fourth Sunday after Easter, is called cantate (sing).

Today is the Fourth Sunday after Easter also called “Good Shepherd”  Sunday reflecting the gospel lesson and the psalm recited this day throughout most of the Anglican Communion. In the past, Good Shepherd Sunday took place on the Second Sunday after Easter. But many churches felt that it was out of place since the emphasis of Easter is the Resurrection and its witnesses. Thus the Good Shepherd account was moved to this, the Fourth Sunday in Easter. In this gospel from John, Jesus emphasizes the goal of seeking the good for others even at personal expense, indeed even to the point of great sacrifice.

Today we welcome the Reverend (Deacon) Robert Seifert who will lead us in a special service of communion called “a Deacon’s Mass.” Looking forward to this day, on Easter, Fr. Bob consecrated both bread and wine and placed them in the Ambry. This is called “reserve sacrament” which is used by a deacon when he or she leads a service. Why? Ask Robert!
